GEL has been investing in the future of Engineering for over 40 years.
A structured Advanced Apprenticeship programme is in place and GEL are taking on more young people year on year, building up their skills and knowledge base, ready to meet our growth plans. We currently have a total of 12 Apprentices on our Apprenticeship programme; making up 7% of our workforce. We currently offer Mechanical and Fabrication and Welding apprenticeships which are delivered through a local training provider. The programme involves 4 years of training with the first year spent in college, and the following 3 years based in the work place, with a day release to continue your qualifications.
GEL has high standards and high expectations of its Apprentices, but we also provide great opportunities. We have linked in with The Welding Institute (TWI) and the Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (NAMRC) based in Rotherham, to provide the Apprentices with an insight into new technologies and manufacturing processes.
All apprentices are actively encouraged to continue with their studies, either to HNC, HND or Degree level.
Recruitment
We run our Apprentice recruitment process from January through to April each year. We are looking for enthusiastic engineers of the future with good GCSE grades in Maths and English. However, the academic aspect is just one part of the process. What else do you do? Having a hobby, belonging to a team or club, doing voluntary work, or working towards a goal are all recognised and commended in our interview process. We need to know what makes you different and why we should employ you!
